Version History for v2.30

v2.30.4 – April 17, 2023

Changes:

  • FreeMeter and FreeMeter Professional:
    • Moved "Do not show volumes that are unavailable or offline" from Preferences to the Volume Space meter properties. Also changed it to be "Show volumes that are unavailable or offline" to remove the double-negative.
    • The installer can now tell a running instance of FreeMeter to quit before the installation begins.
    • Changed tray icon tool-tip text for memory-based meters.
  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • CPU Cores meter: When a core's utilization goes down, show the previous high value for that core.

Bug fixes:

  • FreeMeter and FreeMeter Professional:
    • When moving the window, the left/right screen snapping was off by one pixel. When docked at the border between two displays, one pixel column would be on the other display.
    • Deal with error updating tray icons when computer is waking from sleep.
    • Fix problem with all meter's outer 3D frame not drawing when coming out of sleep and some other times.
  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • CPU Cores meter: Change the calculations for how the Cores meter bars are drawn. Was having rounding problems that could cause 100% to be beyond the top of the graph area.
    • Could not change the "Sync network and disk graph" option.

v2.30.3 – February 4, 2023

Bug fixes:

  • FreeMeter and FreeMeter Professional:
    • Meters assigned to either timer 2 or 3 would update their data when either timer was triggered. The meters were redrawn using the correct timer.

v2.30.2 – January 14, 2023

Changes:

  • FreeMeter and FreeMeter Professional:
    • Single left click on tray icon now brings FreeMeter window to foreground.
    • If the user has not yet selected a network interface for the network meter and there is only one interface available, it is now automatically selected. If there is more than one, then the user is told in the graph area that no interface is selected.
    • On Windows 8 and above, add information to the CPU Meter properties dialog explaining why the CPU usage graph can look different from what the Windows Task Manager shows.
    • Reorder items in meter context menu.
    • Add “Move to Top” and “Move to Bottom” to meter context menu.

Bug fixes:

  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • Ping meter: Get rid of the flicker when updating.
    • CPU Cores meter: Add meter update time to Statistics Summary dialog.

v2.30.1 – December 5, 2022

Bug fixes:

  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • Ping Meter: Was using the incorrect timer.

v2.30.0 – December 4, 2022

Changes:

  • FreeMeter and FreeMeter Professional:
    • Added another timer. There are now three general use timers.
    • Volume Space meter now looks more like a modern list control. Change was mostly in the column headers.
    • The Volume Space Meter “Always Round Down” option is now “Round used space up and free space down.”
    • Change how new window position is determined when FreeMeter is being repositioned for being outside the display area.
    • Memory Graph Meters: Added the option of including total memory in the text under the graph and added the option to show the amounts with 1 or 2 decimal places.
    • Double-clicking a tray icon now toggles the hidden/unhidden state of the FreeMeter window rather than only hiding it.
    • Rewrote how meter options are handled internally.
  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • NEW METER: The CPU Cores Graph meter shows the utilization of each CPU core. Click here for more information.
    • Changed default colors. To switch to them, you have to select "Default" in the Meter Colors dialog.
    • Added each color's Red,Green,Blue and Hue,Saturation,Luminance values to the meter color settings dialog.

Bug fixes:

  • FreeMeter and FreeMeter Professional:
    • The very first time FreeMeter was run on a computer, you could see the window appear and draw itself in the upper left corner of the primary display, then move to the center of the primary display. Now it goes straight to the center of the primary display.
    • If the Volume Space meter was off and you added another meter, the Volume Space meter's column headers would magically appear even though the meter was off.
    • Sometimes when switching from HKEY_CURRENT_USER to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE it would seem to work, but preferences would have been removed from the registry entirely. This was caused by the open registry key being cached and still pointing to HKCU. FreeMeter would save to HKCU and then delete HKCU since it thought it saved to HKLM.
  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • Ping Meter: If a monitored host was down on FreeMeter launch, FreeMeter would pause waiting to timeout on the down host(s). Now it lets that continue in the background.
